Baileys Derbyday (GB) wore earplugs throughout the preliminaries which were removed upon arrival at the start.
After hitting the front, the winner, Meritorious (GB), moved quickly right-handed into the whip, giving a bump to Baileys Derbyday (GB), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Meritorious (GB).
The performance of Easy Equation (FR), placed sixth, beaten by 38¾ lengths, was considered.
Callum Shepherd reported that the gelding stopped quickly and J S Moore’s explanation that Easy Equation (FR) was unsuited by the Soft ground, which in his opinion, was riding particularly holding on this occasion, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
