Tim Easterby had obtained prior permission from the BHA to run Delgrey Boy (GB) partially shod.
The Clerk of the Scales objected to Semper Augustus (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Paul Hanagan on the grounds of the rider failing to weigh in.
Semper Augustus (GB) was disqualified and the placings revised as follows: First: Delgrey Boy (GB); Second: Musahaba (GB); Third: Florenza (GB); Fourth: Rum Runner (GB).
After being interviewed, the rider was suspended for 3 days and was not entitled to a riding fee.
Approaching the line, Musahaba (GB), placed second, edged slightly right as Semper Augustus (GB), which was subsequently disqualified, shifted marginally left causing the rider of Rum Runner (GB), which was promoted to fourth, to take a brief check but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved, and it had not improved the placing of Musahaba (GB) or Semper Augustus (GB).
The winner, Delgrey Boy (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Pontefract on 6 April 2021, where the gelding finished fourteenth of fourteen, beaten by 9¾ lengths.
Tim Easterby’s explanation that Delgrey Boy (GB) had benefited from its seasonal reappearance at Pontefract having had a 228 day break was noted.
Following the race, Sam James reported that Rum Runner (GB), placed fourth, was denied a clear run inside the final ½ furlong.
Dougie Costello reported that Shackabooah (GB), unplaced, weakened quickly in the final 2 furlongs; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing of Shackabooah (GB), failed to reveal any abnormalities.
