The Stewards requested a report from Aengus King, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Capture The Drama, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that having had a few disappointing runs the horse had his palate operated on. He added that this operation seemed to help him finish out today's race. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered. B.T. O'Connell, rider of Fair Quest trained by Michael John Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was lame when pulled up. P. Townend, rider of Henry Howard trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly and made a few jumping mistakes. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Alamein, trained by M.F.Morris, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
