The Stewards interviewed F.M. Berry, rider of Johnny Lawman, concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was hanging markedly away from the stands and his use of the whip was solely to ensure he maintained a straight course. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards accepted the evidence that the horse was hanging but advised F.M. Berry to be more careful with giving his mount a chance to respond to the whip in future.
