Permission was given for Kenny The Captain to be mounted in the chute and go to post early.
The winner Wasntexpectingthat (GB) appeared to show an improvement in form, compared with its previous run at Catterick on 19 October 2019, where the gelding finished fourteenth of fifteen beaten 29 lengths.
Richard Fahey explained that the gelding may have appreciated the drop in class on this occasion.
His explanation was noted and Wasntexpectingthat (GB) was routine tested.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Bedtime Bella ridden by Theodore Ladd and trained by Michael Appleby which appeared to be tenderly handled until the rider made an effort inside the final furlong, to finish twelfth of fourteen beaten 10¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination found the filly to be coughing.
The rider stated his instructions were to get cover as the filly had ran too freely on her recent starts, and finish as best he could.
He added that after getting cover he didn’t have a clear run through the middle part of the race, with another horse dropping back in front of him, and when he did get clear the filly weakened and finished tired.
The trainer’s representative stated she was satisfied that the ride accorded with the instructions given.
Their explanations were noted.
