An enquiry was held to consider why Dan Skelton was running Konigin Ara (GER) here at Market Rasen on going described as Good, having declared the filly a non-runner at Huntingdon yesterday, 9 May 2019, on ground with the same official description.
The trainer’s representative stated that the trainer was concerned that the forecast rain at Huntingdon would have made the ground unsuitable for Konigin Ara (GER), and had declared the filly to run at Market Rasen, which had a drier forecast, and was happy for Konigin Ara (GER) to take its chance on what he considered to be a sounder surface at Market Rasen today.
Turning into the home straight on the first circuit, a free-running Soldier Of War (USA), unplaced, clipped the heels of Easy Wood (FR), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Henry Brooke, the rider of Bonsai Bay (GB), had unseated on the final bend.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
It was found that no other horse or rider was involved and that the incident was accidental and was caused by the gelding racing greenly and hanging sharply left going into a right-hand bend.
Following the race, David Bass reported that Soldier Of War (USA), unplaced, ran too free.
