Review navan 5th Jun
Seamus Heffernan enjoyed a confidence boost on the eve of the Investec Derby as he enjoyed a double in the colours of Derrick Smith at Navan.
Heffernan will don Smith's purple and white colours as he gets the leg up on Fame And Glory at Epsom and he warmed up with a fine victory on Man Of Iron
The Giant's Causeway colt, who is a half-brother to Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags To Riches, made it third-time lucky in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden
Sent off a 9-4 chance, he looked set for another defeat when Daly and Lady Rockfield tackled him for the lead but Heffernan refused to accept defeat and the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt found his second wind for a five-and-a-half-length verdict.
Heffernan and Smith completed their brace as David Wachman's Skating (9-2) edged out Venice In Spring in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.< Kardyls Hope (7-1 co-favourite) finally shed her maiden tag at the sixth attempt with a two-length win in the Anniversary Handicap.
Winning trainer Jarlath Fahey said: "She has been working very well at home and we knew she'd handle the good ground.
"We were very hopeful and we really thought this was her race."
Young jockey Ronan Whelan recorded a first career success as he claimed the Come Racing Here Again Next Friday Handicap aboard Jim Bolger's 4-1 favourite Seachantach
At Cork, Jubilant Note (14-1) got up in the shadow of the post to reverse last year's placings with Dbest in the Cork Handicap Chase.
Michael Murphy's charge was firmly put in his place by Dbest last season but responded well to Davy Condon's urgings to deny his old adversary by a head.
"He loves fast ground. He's rated 131 and there aren't many races for him here so he might go across to England," said Murphy.
