Peter Lawlor's adventurous November Handicap plan with Joupe remains on course, as the restricted trainer's mare today neared the qualifying standard, by winning the Curragh's Extra Place Races At Novibet Handicap.
In the closing stages of the 23-runner race, Joupe (25/1) was level with Advantage Point but lunged late for a narrow win, under jockey Daniel King. It was Joupe's fourth win and her first on turf, having previously won three times at Dundalk.
Donard, County Wicklow based Lawlor revealed “she is now up to 1m6f having started racing at seven furlongs and brought her here because we have an entry for the November Handicap. I wanted to get her up in the ratings to get in.
“She travels well and once she settles, she has the speed at the end and Dan gave her a tremendous ride.
“I’m delighted and hopefully we’ll get into the November Handicap now.”
Joupe's win was achieved with a rating of 72, with bottom weight being 79 in last year's November Handicap.
