Bred by the Mangans in Conna out of a ‘Montys’ dam, Jaycean had plenty to recommend on paper and he proved as much out on the track with a winning debut in the Graigs Lane Maiden Hurdle (division one) at Navan.
The Caldwell Construction Ltd-owned and Gordon Elliott-trained Leading Light gelding got a 33/1 quote for the Ballymore with Powers after landing a three and a quarter length win in the hands of Davy Russell.
Tail swishing Hemlock followed home in second, with a three length gap back to favourite Glen Wyllin in third.
Owners Andrew and Gemma Brown have assembled a lovely team of horses with their man in Ireland, Joey Logan, and Elliott sees a nice future for this five-year-old too.
He said: “I thought he was a baby, he was very raw and I said we'd give him a run in a maiden hurdle and see where we are. He's a nice horse.
“That was great and he's not a bad horse. Even hacking away at home he's a big light weak horse.
“He's a big chaser, that's what he is.”
J.C. Gainford, rider of Keepthefaithinme trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled throughout this race.
