Sergei Prokofiev confirmed the smart impression he made at Navan last time by taking the Coolmore War Command Rochestown Stakes in equally emphatic fashion at Naas this afternoon.
The Scat Daddy colt won by over seven lengths in a Navan maiden last month and was sent off the 2/7 favourite to follow up in this five-furlong Listed event.
Ryan Moore was always happy on the winner, who asserted well over a furlong out and quickly went clear to score by four lengths. Andre Amar kept on best of the quartet of rivals to take the runner-up spot, with Offline a further half a length away in third.
Winning trainer Aidan O’Brien said, “He’s learning and when he gets more pace in front of him it will help. He’s very natural and gets there very easy — Ryan is very happy with him.
“It will be either the Coventry or the Norfolk and will depend on what we do with some of the other two-year-olds. He won’t mind going five or six.”
Paddy Power cut Sergei Prokofiev into 11/4 (from 7/2) for the Coventry Stakes, while Boylesports were even more impressed and offer just 2/1 (from 3/1).
