Pyromaniac jumped better than Solatentif in the two mile one maiden hurdle at Killarney and that proved the difference as he won by four and three quarter lengths at 10/3.

Solatentif was sent off the 4/9 favourite on the back of his impressive win in a bumper at this track last month. He got on terms with Temp Mac at the fourth last and led three out.

However, Pyromaniac was on his shoulder and edged ahead upon jumping the second last. Solatentif made a bad mistake at the last when second. This allowed Tony Martin’s Pyromaniac to forge on and win decisively. Streak who was nibbled at this morning from 25/1 to 16/1, rewarded each way players in third. She was a further 13 lengths back and was returned at 14/1.

Winning jockey Shane Shortall said: “He did it very well. He always travelled well. He jumped a lot better when I moved upsides. I always felt I had the measure of the other horse. He’ll make a good dual-purpose horse.”
