It was 12/1 bar two for the TramoreRaces.ie Mares Maiden Hurdle and the duo to the front of the market dominated but not in the way most predicted. Moll Dote (9/4) beat Escort’namix (1/2) by a convincing six and a half lengths.
They left 12/1 ‘third-in,’ Senorita Madore all of forty five lengths back in the bronze medal position, and many failed to get a look in at all.
A little keen, Escort’namix took over from the front-running Moll Dote before the second last with a circuit to go.
However at the penultimate flight when it really mattered the Declan Queally-trained and Simon Torrens-ridden Moll Dote got on terms.
Soon in front the daughter of Elusive Pimpernel asserted from before the last for a deserved success.
"She deserved that. The last day in Tipperary was a disaster, she jumped right for me. I saw this race and it looked poor but she is a winner now and I'm delighted,” said Queally.
“Hopefully she won't get too much weight for that, I don't think she will.
“Anytime she runs in a handicap she seems to get beaten but it's great to win here today. Hopefully she'll get into a handicap rated 0 to 95 still.
“She liked the track and I'd say she is better on a hilly track.
“I'm thrilled for her owner Sean Quirke from Limerick. He has had her a long time and he has stuck with her. I was just on the phone to him there and he has the sitting room turned upside down."
P.E. Corbett, rider of Donttellcatherine trained by Ms.M.Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in running.
