There was a morning-price gamble landed on Masonbrook Lady in the mile and a half Thomastown Handicap at Gowran Park.
Sporting blinkers for the first time, the three-year-old filly proved popular in early trading as she contracted to 6/1 from 10/1. At the track she remained steady at the 7/1 she was returned at.
Gary Halpin was on board for Denis Hogan and she chased the leaders before making good progress to pick them off with more than a quarter of a mile to go.
From there, she strode on powerfully and put the race to bed in the final furlong.
She passed the post four lengths up on Lizard Point (25/1). Trespassed at 16/1 was a further three parts of a length away in third.
Denis Hogan said: “The blinds have done the trick, and Gary said she was a lot sharper with them on. The ground was a bit slow in Killarney the last day but she still ran a fair race.
"We’ve always thought a bit of her. She’s entered in Galway on Thursday and a penalty for that win may get her in.”
