Fifth and second respectively behind Ard Abhainn at Clonmel three weeks ago, Kalli’s Quest turned the tables on My Midnight as the pair filled the first two spots in the Thurles Racecourse Supporters Club Mares Maiden Hurdle.
Not surprisingly this stamina test seemed to suit point-to-point winner Kalli’s Quest well.
In the hands of Phillip Enright the daughter to Kalanisi hurdled well and beat My Midnight easier than the two and three quarter length verdict would indicate.
Said winning trainer Terence O’Brien in the aftermath: "She didn't show us a whole lot last year but the one thing the family do is keep improving the older they get.
"We thought we'd try and win her point to point, which she did the second day, and then she ran ok in bumpers.
"We were hoping this year she might improve again and she should be competitive in some of those mares' novice handicaps.
"She is a super jumper and we'll stick to hurdles this year and a trip and soft ground is what she wants."
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Uisce Solas trained by Declan Queally, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
A. McCurtin, rider of Pellady (GB) trained by Ms. Debbie Hartnett, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was badly hampered by a faller.
