Peter Lawlor's Joupe got up on the line to land the spoils in the apprentice handicap at Dundalk this evening. Arctic Blaze cut out the running in the mile-and-a-half contest but was claimed close home by Cozone as Joupe also pressed.
Daniel King 's mount had her head down at the right time passing the post as the well-backed 10/3 favourite (16/1 this morning) grabbed a nose victory.
“It's was her first time over this trip but she's very genuine and I knew she'd stay. I might even step her up again,” said Lawlor.
“She was picking up the pieces there at the end. This is her home really. She had two runs on the turf to sharpen her up for here. We'll keep coming back here.
“She got a 7lb rise for finishing seventh here on her last run which I thought was a bit much at the time but we're after winning again now.
“I'm delighted with that and we'll come back here in a fortnight. We'll see what the handicapper gives her this time.
“Dan gave her a fantastic ride. He settled her out the back and we ride her the same way all the time, come with a run around the outside. All I told him was to come with a clear run and what ever happens happens.”
