Kavaco made a winning debut in Dundalk for Willie McCreery and Pat Smullen in the mile maiden for three-year-olds and upwards.

Smullen settled him in second and nudged him into the lead three furlongs from home. The 7/4 joint favourites, Pacelli Road and The Visitor set off in pursuit but were unable to get on terms and were beaten a length and a half and a nose respectively.

“He’s bred by owner breeder Colman O’Flynn from Fermoy, Co Cork who bred Denman ‘the tank’. He’s a tall, big narrow horse and when he went to Tattersalls they said they had never seen a bigger yearling,” Willie McCreery said.

“He did everything wrong tonight and still won. What he really wants is seven furlongs on a straight track because when he gets going he’s a fair horse. I like him and he’ll improve a lot.”

There was plenty of early money for four-year-old Choisir gelding Kavaco today from 3/1 to as low as 11/8, however, at the track his SP was returned at 9/4.

This was jockey Pat Smullen's second winner on the evening. He won the opener on Mr Good Guy for Eddie Lynam.
