Sunchyme (7/1) showed plenty of resolution to win the three mile maiden hurdle in Cork for Johnny Hurley and Danny Mullins.

It was a red-letter day for Hurley who said: "That's my first winner and hopefully the first of many more!

"I worked for four years with Noel Meade and have also trained a few point-to-point winners. I've six or seven horses but only one more for the track.

"This fellow hasn't been the easiest to train but is very talented. Today's ground helped and he'll keep going for the summer and could go back over fences."

The nine-year-old gelding took a few lengths out of the pack on the approach to the home straight and it served him well.

He still looked to have plenty of work on his hands as the closers moved into position.

Nothing looked more threatening than Carrigmoorna Matt who led the chase coming to the last.

However, Sunchyme responded well to Mullins and was driven out on the run-in to account for Carrigmoorna Matt (25/1) by two and a quarter lengths. Goose Man (12/1) completed the placings in third.
