First reserve Getaway Master credited two-horse trainer Richard Daniels with his second success today, landing Limerick's Follow Limerick Races Instagram Handicap Hurdle for fellow Galway-based part-owner Tom Moran.
Cheltenham-bound Danny Mullins was a late call-up to ride the 15-race maiden seven-year-old which 'got in' to the 18-runner race yesterday, following the defection of Eddies Pride.
Produced from mid-field, Getaway Master led approaching the last, finishing well to win easily from Imbolc
Loughrea-based trainer Daniels' previous winner was with 11-year-old Whatsafellatodo last May and today said “we were lucky to get in and thanks to Norman Lee (trainer of Eddies Pride) for the phone call yesterday.
“I did a bit of point-to-pointing for a few seasons and got into training during covid, with a few horses of our own. I only have two horses in and myself and my brother do them. Both have now won but we'll tip along with small numbers and keep it handy.
“Danny gave him a patient ride, kept a lid on him and he came home strongly.”
Part-owner Tom Moran, also from Galway, added “I'm involved in horses a long time, I don't get winners too often so this is mighty. We bought him as a three-year-old, he was in a big yard which didn't suit and he needed the hands-on attention from a small yard.
“I've been racing for years, have had horses with most trainers in Galway and it is great to keep it local. I support who is around me and I'm wishing best of luck to the Gilligans (from Galway) at Cheltenham next week.”
