Big Gossey was one of two horses in the six-furlong handicap at the Curragh with wins from their last starts, and he collected again for trainer Charles O'Brien.

The 14/1 shot was always to the fore in the stands'-side group and moved to the front approaching the final two furlongs. He was ridden by Michael Hussey to go for home over a furlong out.

The pair were strongly pressed by Flaming Moon in the final 100 yards, but didn't falter in winning by half a length from the 16/1 runner-up. Taggalo on her first start since switching to Johnny Murtagh took third at 14/1. With 17 runners going to post, the backers of well-backed 11/4-favourite Elusive King got a place dividend in fourth.

This was Big Gossey's handicap debut after winning at Dundalk (also under Hussey) just before Christmas.
