Tristram Shandy has been a winner waiting to happen since a promising debut at Limerick back in April and he supplied his trainer Eric McNamara with a first success since July of last year. Under McNamara's son Emmet, he compensated the stable for the defeat of the well-backed favourite Sir Harry Cash half an hour earlier, by landing the Valley of Honey Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel. There was a lack of opportunities for this type of horse before Punchestown but he's been a great servant and I'm delighted for his owner Mrs Fox. He has ability on his day and loves passing horses. Ryan gave him a super ride and did exactly what I told him. I've 6 or 8 in training for the summer and it's great that this came along today.

It's been a good 24 hours and he did it well. Three miles is his trip and he'll go for something similar next in a few weeks. I'm delighted for his owner/breeder Etna Fox, from Hospital, Co Limerick, who loves the horse and is a great supporter of mine.
