Sunny South West shines in the Clonmel bumper
Sunny South West showed the benefit of a run at Thurles earlier this month when justifying strong support in the Next Race Meeting April 17th (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Clonmel. Thu 27th Mar
After race at Cork Fri, 11th Jul, 2025 (1st) 
I’m very happy with him. In time he’ll want two and a half and that’s probably where we’ll go the next day in Galway. He never jumped those rubber hurdles before and was jumping Easyfix hurdles quite well at home. He had a look at a few of them but will come on a lot from that. He was probably travelling too well and had too much time to think about it going down to the jumps. He’s a horse with plenty of ability and we’ll keep trying till we find exactly how good he is. There is a two and a half mile novice in Galway on the Thursday. Ross (O’Sullivan) won it with a horse called Donnie Devito last year that I sold to him.

After race at Tipperary Wed, 14th May, 2025 (1st)
He’s a lovely horse with a very high cruising speed. In a perfect world something would go on a right good gallop and he could settle in behind. He was even a bit keen there today. Everybody thought I was a bit mad going for the big race in Punchestown, but I knew he was good enough. The race didn’t pan out as planned as they went very slow, and he was dropped in. He still ran a good race and came out of it fresh and well, so we lined him up for today. He might get a bit of a break now and come back over hurdles during the summer. He jumps very well, so hopefully that won’t be an issue.

After race at Clonmel Thu, 27th Mar, 2025 (1st)
I had a hunters chase winner with a hunters chase license last year so that's my second winner and my first since getting my restricted trainer’s license. He is a very nice horse, I thought he was an absolute certainty in his four-year-old point-to-point but everything that could go wrong, went wrong. A loose horse galloped into him in the parade ring and drove him mad and in the race, he basically fell and was pulled up. He was always highly strung and at Thurles the last day Adam dropped him in, but the horse went to sleep before flying home. We rode him with different tactics today and it paid off. I got him for only €8,000 at the sales and he was a beautiful mover and had a great pedigree. I thought a blind man would have been after him, so I was surprised to get him. Sean (Dalton, from Tipperary town) is looking for a good one for a long time and I'd say he'll keep him. We might go for a winners' bumper and will go summer novice hurdling as he likes good ground.
