On a day where the locals dominated at Bettyville courtesy of Mikey Fogarty, Paul Nolan, Liz Doyle and Colm Murphy, New Ross owner and trainer Harry Williams and Gordon Doyle got in on the act when Foritsa put his third win in a row on the board in the Arctic Tack Stud Veterans Handicap Chase. Mon 17th MarKennoway back in winning groove before hols
It was 7/1 bar in the concluding Frank Hannon Memorial Handicap Chase at Roscommon and it didn't get any better for backers of the 'fancied ones' on the National Hunt section of the card when Rockyaboya, the well-backed 6/4 favourite, unseated Patrick Mullins at the fourth last. A pound out of the handicap, Kennoway was the one to step forward and take his chance, prevailing in the extended two and a half miler under Robbie Colgan. Great credit to the owners (Nelius Hayes and D Cox) and staff as he's a horse that's broken down a couple of times. The better ground made a difference. He didn't run too badly at Navan when he pulled up before the last behind a horse that finished fifth in the National (Panther Claw). I'm sure the owners would like to go to Punchestown and we'll see if he's sound after that.

After race at Navan Mon, 16th Feb, 2009 (1st)
The reason he is called Solstice Knight is because the two owners (Dermot Cox and Nelius Hayes) and the horse were all born on Solstice Day (21st of June). He is so different to his full-brother and he has the real cut of a chaser. He is entered at Cheltenham but I don't know if he'll go there. He had a bit of leg trouble as a four-year-old. (EM)
