I was very disappointed with his jumping and at halfway I thought he was gone but when Danny grabbed ahold of him and gave him a squeeze, giving him a lot of assistance, he was way better. Maybe the other horses were summer types who didn't go on that ground. At the moment I'll keep him going and will keep him to that trip, which seems to suit him better. I'll keep him to small runner races as I'm not sure he likes big fields. Danny is a fantastic guy to have around the place and is all the time willing to school and willing to do anything. He is having a great season and is riding so well at the moment.

he probably needs a little bit further but I thought Willie and Anthony (Bromley) placed him really well and it was a nice opportunity for him. He's a brilliant jumper. He was a little bit rushy into one down the back and at the last as well, but all in all when you need a good jump from him he delivers. Cape Gentleman was a little bit slow at a couple of jumps, and when that happened I was able to fill my lad up whenever I had the opportunity. I knew he was on my girths the whole way but I could sense that he wasn't travelling as well as I was.

I think he was probably fortunate that the ones in front took each other on,. When they finished battling he just had a little bit more in the tank. He has lots of experience and had run (four times) over fences in France before he came to us. His experience probably told. He's a nice horse and we had been disappointed that he hadn't won for us over fences up until last time. I think that might be the start of it now as sometimes when a horse gets his head in front he gets the habit of it.

He looked as big as a bull to me when I saw him with his number-cloth on and he did well to do what he did today over a short trip,. I had asked Daryl to be positive on him from the start and thought he was too positive but when he got his second wind half way down the straight he quickened nicely and passed the other one. He is a real chaser but is only four and I'll keep him as a novice hurdler and we will probably go up in trip with him as well.
