he’s nice and fresh, and got a lovely ride from Gary. It’s not the ideal draw but they went hard and it suited him. It took us about four years but we’ve got something out of him now so it’s great. I don’t think he can put us up too much and he’ll go for something similar . If he goes out of the 0-65 range then we might end up in Galway. He doesn’t owe us anything now. It’s nice to get off the mark here with all the other local trainers having winners. For me it’s like the feeling of having a winner at Cheltenham on the Tuesday!

strictly speaking we were a pound well in but when we saw the draw we though 'ah god'! I told Gary (Carroll) before the race that if he won from his draw (in 17) I would be extolling his virtues to the press so you'd have to give it to him as it was a super ride. He thinks the horse is just getting his confidence now and he seems versatile ground-wise and came back in trip today on a tightish track. He doesn't owe us anything with two wins in five days and he might be back here again in September.

he had snippets of form that were okay and he was beaten one day in Ayr by a horse that went up about 25lb afterwards; he just had little issues. We sent him hurdling and he didn't enjoy that. I think he was delighted to see no hurdles and when he saw the stalls he went 'yahoo' and put his best foot forward!. He's not a superstar but he definitely had the ability to win off that mark. I'm delighted to get it out of him because we kept him a long time believing he had it in him. We might go across to Ayr or something like that with him. Gary said he picked up plenty and he'll stay further. I think we might shelve hurdling anyway — that's the Champion Hurdle gone off the agenda anyway!
