YOUNG KENNY SET FOR WHITBREAD

Peter Beaumont revealed the surprise news at Carlisle that his star chaser Young Kenny may run in the Whitbread Gold Cup at Sandown next Saturday.

Young Kenny was third under top weight in the Ladbroke Casinos Scottish Grand National at Ayr last Saturday and it had been expected that he would not run again this season.

And he had fallen at the 10th fence in the Martell Grand National a week earlier.

However Beaumont explained: 'The ground looks like being soft at Sandown and his owner Gareth Read is keen to give him another run.

'We will certainly put him in at the five-day stage on Monday and then we will have a look at what the opposition is going to be like and hopefully keep our fingers crossed that there will be some cut in the ground.'

Young Kenny is set to carry 11st 5lb, 5lb less than the top weight Dorans Pride and Beaumont went on: 'He has come out of the race at Ayr very well and I am happy with him but if he didn't go to Sandown there is certainly nothing left for him this season and he will be put away.
