Westener makes big impression in bumper

The Westener Boy turned the concluding bumper at Fairyhouse into a procession when powering to an impressive victory.

Patrick Mullins popped the well backed 5/4 favourite (from 7/2 in the morning) out in front in the early stages before relinquishing the lead at halfway.

Mags Mullins' charge hit the front again turning for home and soon settled matters.

The Westerner gelding pulled well clear over two furlongs out and could afford to ease down inside the final furlong for an effortless 20-length success.

The winner was making his racecourse debut having landed a point-to-point at Lisronagh last month.

"I've no real plans but he was very impressive today," said Mags Mullins.

"He's a chaser and could be a serious horse."
