Well Run gives Meade and Carberry first Ulster National Well Run gave a further indication that the Noel Meade yard is returning to top form by providing the Navan trainer and stable jockey Paul Carberry with their first win in the Powers Ulster Grand National at Downpatrick this afternoon. There was a sense of anti-climax as News Item, bidding for a hat-trick in this three and a half miles event, unseated Johnny Farrelly after blundering at the first but Well Run went on to dominate proceedings. The Saddlers´ Hall gelding, whose previous win at Fairyhouse on New Year´s Day marked the start of a long barren run for the Meade stable that only ended with a double at Punchestown last week, made virtually all and stretched clear for a comfortable five and a half lengths victory over Forest Leaves. ´He worked well in front the other morning and I told Paul I didn´t mind if he made it. I´m keen to go for the Irish National and we came here as he probably needs to go up a few pounds to get into that race,´ said Meade.
