Yellow Rosebud got revenge on old rival Lady Wingshot at Tipperary as she took the Group 3 Concorde Stakes by three lengths.
Dermot Weld’s three-year-old filly had been beaten into second on both her last outings by Lady Wingshot at Galway and Tipperary but a three pound pull in the weights aided her cause today.
Pat Smullen hit the front two furlongs out on the stands-side rail on the even money favourite and although Lady Wingshot (15/8) and Kevin Manning closed to challenge, Yellow Rosebud quickened away in the last half furlong to win well with her ears pricked. Coolnagree (8/1) for Willie McCreery and Declan McDonogh came home third in the six-runner field.
Kris Weld, assistant trainer to his father Dermot Weld, said: “It is our third year in-a-row winning this race after Emulous and Anam Allta.
“That’s dad’s 14th Group winner this year which is a fair total. She won nicely and appreciated the cut.
“She’ll go for the Listed Garnet Stakes at Naas or be let off. The intention is to keep her in training next year.”
