Dermot Weld joined Padraig Lodge on RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland this morning and the presenter began by asking the Master of Rosewell House how he continues to produce the goods at Galway.
Weld said: "I always enjoy Galway. Galway has always been good to me. As a fifteen-year-old I won the big amateur handicap on the first evening. There is a great variety of races and it suits my horses and it comes at a good time of year."
Lodge then wondered aloud if Weld "ever hits the town and enjoys the night life around Galway". Weld's response was: "Not very much because obviously you're tired with early morning starts and evening racing. Racing finishes quite late every evening and you're planning for the following day."
Of his big Galway Plate hope, Majestic Concorde Weld commented: "His prospects must be very good. He is a very good horse but the only problem we have is that he is basically a flat horse jumping fences. Inexperience has to be a big factor. If he completes the course and please God, he will, he has got to be right in there with a big chance.
"Bobs Pride is even a better jumper. He is another good flat horse but there's got to be a big question mark about the stamina.
"It takes a horse with huge courage and determination to win a Galway Plate. A horse must stay two miles six, handle the undulations, be a very sound horse and have the will to win."
Questioned as to how punters should play today, Weld advised: "Majestic Concorde each-way will give a good run but my best chance of a winner today would have to be Endless Intrigue in the 4.45."
