Trainer Dermot Weld introduced his latest debutante winner at Gowan today as the Calumet Farm owned Queen Anne’s Lace (10/1, under stable jockey Pat Smullen) made a favourable impression when taking the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden.
Weld is arguably Ireland’s best performer with newcomers and was today sending out his 11th debutante winner of 2016, as the daughter of Lonhro sprinted clear of her rivals from two furlongs out before scoring a comfortable four and a half lengths win over Bound
Following the race, Derby winning trainer Weld stated “she's a nice filly, is owned and bred by Calumet and it's lovely to have a nice filly for them.
“She worked well the other morning and I thought she'd run very well and there is nice improvement in her. She had a good draw in one but it didn't really matter as she was just too good for them.
“She'll have one more run this season and we'll have a crack at a stakes race. She stays well and handles that ground - she’ll always need a nice ease in the ground.”
