Galway and Goodwood have thrown up winners at big prices this week and there is still plenty of time to find value this weekend, before the summer meetings come to a close. Editor Vincent Finegan, pundit Emma Nagle and Betting Expert's Stephen Harris have studied the form and picked out their best bets, including a 20-1 fancy for the Stewards’ Cup.
Napper Tandy (nap) McDonogh Capital Investments Handicap, 17.25 Galway, Saturday
Mathew Smith's runners have been knocking on the door all week at Galway and Napper Tandy could give the stable a winner here. The ex-Andrew Balding trained 6-year-old, who finished third over hurdles here earlier this week, will have his first Flat start for Smith in this contest. With several confirmed front-runners in this line up he should get a nice lead into the race and his proven stamina can play a vital role up the demanding finishing climb.
Baltic Bird, BoyleSports Handicap Hurdle, 2.30 Galway, Saturday
Baltic Bird showed a liking for the track when second in Monday's feature race and could build on that in an open looking contest. After winning a competitive handicap in Ballinrobe over this trip in May, he looked to be on an upward curve before possibly not staying the extended 3 miles at Kilbeggan. Now dropping back to what may be his optimal trip on a track he enjoys he looks a good each-way bet.
Appollo One, Stewards’ Cup handicap 6f, 3:35 Goodwood, Saturday
Peter Charalambous’s battle-hardened sprinter was sunk in soft ground at Sandown last time out when disappointing, but had run two crackers in strong handicaps before that blip and can bounce back to his best here on a much faster surface. His brute early pace is always a big asset at these sharp tracks, and he can blitz a big field from the front under regular rider Richard Kingscote.
