WINCANTON STAGE MEMORIAL RACE

Wincanton are to run a race in memory of the late Captain Tim Forster on Thursday January 27th.

The Tim Forster Cup, a £12,000-added handicap chase over three miles one and a half furlongs, fell last year to subsequent Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup fourth Double Thriller under its previous guise.

The trainer requested in a note with his will that if a memorial race was to be arranged it should be at Wincanton and for no more than five years.

Ian Renton, clerk of the course and general manager at Wincanton, said: "Wincanton is delighted to stage this memorial race for Tim Forster who was one of the course's keenest supporters and a great stalwart of National Hunt racing."

Forster had strong links with the Somerset course and sent out the likes of Dublin Flyer and Martha's Son to win there in the 1990s.
