Primo Valentino was today reported "raring to go" for his return to the Newmarket July Course on Thursday.
Hopes are high that the Peter Harris-trained three-year-old will put two unplaced efforts behind him when he tackles the Darley July Cup - at the scene of his victory in the Group One Middle Park Stakes last October.
After his seventh in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas over Newmarket's Rowley Mile, leading for a long way and seeming not to stay the trip, he could manage only sixth when brought back to sprinting at Baden-Baden last time.
But Pete Mason, one of the partnership managers at Harris' stable, said: "He was disappointing in Germany but the ground was stickier than we thought it would be and it was just one of those days.
"Primo Valentino has come out of the race very well. He had run probably as good a race as he has ever run in the 2000 Guineas, particularly as he didn't quite get the trip, and we were delighted with him.
"He is raring to go."
Primo Valentino, unbeaten in five outings in Britain over the July Cup trip of six furlongs is quoted at 8-1 for Thursday's £165,000 Group One contest.
