Twig bashes bookies as Elliott bags treble Trainer Gordon Elliott completed a treble at Punchestown today as his Baby Twig justified proper market support (7/4 this morning in to 5/6 favourite) when impressively winning the Weatherbys Ireland (Mares) Bumper on debut, under jockey Jamie Codd. Baby Twig was hot on the heels of the leaders entering the home straight and once Codd found racing room with a furlong and a half to race, the daughter of Network quickly shot clear before in the end scoring a 16 lengths win over Good To Flow. Trainers’ Championship-chasing Elliott, earlier successful with Zanjabeel and Fire In His Eyes, later reported “she is a good honest mare but has had a few problems and has not been the easiest to train. She should improve for that run. “That’s my first runner for Philip (Reynolds, owner and son of late Taoiseach Albert Reynolds), and we may have a look at the (Listed) race in Navan (November 27).” By Tom Weekes, quotes from Alan Magee
