Tommy Kinane passes away

Tommy Kinane, a legend of Irish racing, has passed away at the age of 90.

Kinane enjoyed a hugely successful career as a National Hunt jockey and was famously on board Des McDonogh's Monksfield who beat Sea Pigeon and Night Nurse into second and third respectively in the 1978 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Kinane's son Mick is widely regarded as one of the greatest Flat jockeys of all time and won the Irish Flat Jockeys' Championship no less than 13 times between 1984 and 2003.

Funeral mass in Church of Our Lady and St David, Naas at 10am on Tuesday.
