This Zipporah's a tough one Seven pound claimer Ricky Doyle has struck up a formidable partnership with the Millenary mare, Zipporah, and the Clonmel winner struck again at a Tipperary track when landing the Horse & Jockey Handicap Hurdle at Thurles. Similar to Powerstown Park on December 4th, the duo made their intentions known from an early stage. She'd been beaten at Limerick in the interim, when fourth over Christmas, but the eight-year-old, a decent mare 'between the flags,' was back here to display her toughness. Up to two and three quarter miles, Zipporah, owned and bred by Michael Mee in County Galway, made all, she was clear before the third and extended her advantage halfway. It was soon looking bleak for the 17-rivals of the George Webb-handled 7/1 shot and she could afford to be eased on the run-in and still account for Bloomsday by fourteen lengths. The gambled-on Mr Mulliner, 20s this morning into 7s, could manage only sixth place. P.T. Enright, rider of Ardo Boy trained by Aidan Anthony Howard, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount burst a blood vessel. A.E. Lynch, rider of Budtairis trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled at any time during this race and was pulled up. D.N. Russell, rider of Pops Well trained by Paul O'Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled at any time during this race and was pulled up. (EM)
