Leahman landed a punt in style in the Jack Duggan Memorial 3-y-o Hurdle at Gowran.
Rated just 47 on the level and with two fairly non-descript hurdling efforts to his name Leahman’s chance wasn’t overly apparent for trainer Terence O’Brien and rider Kevin Brouder.
Six to one from sevens on track, and much bigger earlier, the successful Lawman gelding proceeded to go out and make most.
He disputed, led from the first, asserted after four out, and went clear at the next.
Left well clear two out when co-favourite Theatre Of War unseated, Leahman eventually easily defeated Majority Share by thirty three lengths.
“He’s done it well. He had the experience and jumped from hurdle to hurdle," said Brouder on the Brian Leahy-owned victor.
“I kept it simple and was going away in my comfort zone.”
Mr L.J. McGuinness, rider of Van Meegeren trained by Nigel Thomas Slevin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having made a bad mistake at the last hurdle in the back straight which caused his saddle to slip.
