The opening race this evening at Kilbeggan, the Betpack (C&G) Maiden Hurdle was claimed by the Tom Taaffe trained Steeltown under Barry Geraghty.
Geraghty was in front aboard the Craigsteel gelding three flights from home.
The 5/1 shot dug deep for Geraghty from the back of the last to hold off the 5/4 favourite Tango Knight by two and a half lengths.
Winning trainer Taaffe said afterwards: “This horse had a good run behind Frawley in a bumper in January but got badly hampered turning in, the ground went on him then and my horses went wrong.”
“He jumps well and he put in a nice performance here this evening. We will go novice hurdling with him now.”
“I’m delighted for the owner Bjorn Nielsen who sadly lost his brother through illness during the week, so this was a nice tonic for him.”
