TWO THOUSAND ON TRIAL AT LINGFIELD

Godolphin launch Dubai Two Thousand on the Vodafone Derby trail in tomorrow's Gartner Derby Trial at Lingfield Park.

The son of Nashwan, the winner of his only race for trainer David Loder at Longchamp last season, faces seven rivals in the Group Three contest.

Simon Crisford, racing manager for the Dubai operation, said: "He is very well and in good form.

"I think the form of the Longchamp race was respectable but this is much more of a test for him.

"I think the track itself will be a test for him as well because he is a big, long-striding horse who would be better suited by a more galloping course.

"But we should be able to learn how good he is and hopefully he will run well, though he still has a lot to prove."

Dubai Two Thousand is a 25-1 chance for the premier Classic with Ladbrokes.

Among his rivals will be the Terry Mills-trained Bid For Fame, third to Epsom dark horse Wellbeing at Newmarket last month.

Connections hope can better the achievements of All The Way, who finished fifth in last year's Derby for the yard.

A stable spokesman said: "He is improving fast with every run.

"This is a big step up in class but he has improved enormously at home since his last run.

"He can be ridden aggressively and wasn't really at Newmarket but definitely will be on Saturday when Tony Clark rides.

"We have taken a similar route to All The Way last year, but that is largely because they were both inexperienced two-year-olds and there are only certain places to go."

In what should be an informative trial for Epsom, Luca Cumani, successful in this race with subsequent Derby heroes Kahyasi and High-Rise runs recent Brighton maiden winner Trumpet Sound.

Other notable runners include the Aidan O'Brien-trained Apollo Victoria, the unbeaten Saddler's Quest and Thresher Classic Trial third Going Global.

A field of seven fillies has been declared for the Listed Victor Chandler Oaks Trial, a race captured by subsequent Epsom winner Ramruma last year.

The runners include the Barry Hills-trained pair, Banco Suivi and Bedara, and John Dunlop's duo, Dollar Bird and Dream Quest.

Going Global's trainer Sean Woods believes the race will be a thorough test of his colt's ability.

"I think for a trial it's a tough race tomorrow. There are six out of the eight that are young, improving horses," he told the Racing Channel.

"Aidan O'Brien sends one, Godolphin send one, Ed Dunlop runs his horse that won the trial at Epsom so it's going to be a fact-finding mission but he's come out of his conditions race, he's run in his Group race and we're confident in our horse's ability - it's just if he's good enough.

"He's a horse that would probably like a little bit of good to soft, I'm a little bit apprehensive about coming down the hill at Lingfield but we'll see how we go tomorrow and that will decide whether we go to Italy or stay in England for the Derby."

Going Global won on his seasonal debut at Ripon before finding the run of the race against him in the Thresher Classic Trial at Sandown.

"I was really frustrated, they walked and then they quickened and he's a real staying horse," Woods added.

"It was heavy ground and no horse likes that ground. It hadn't rained for 24 hours and it got really gluey but they all had to run it."
