TOUGH MARE GOES BACK FOR MORE

Celtic Native will bid for her eighth win of the season in this afternoon's £20,000-added Cheltenham Mares' Only Handicap Hurdle just 24 hours after recording her latest victory.

On Wednesday the Philip Hobbs-trained mare comfortably landed the bet internet.com 'National Hunt' Auction Novices' Hurdle by eight lengths at Cheltenham and is set to return to Prestbury Park.

"She's fine this morning and she runs again," announced Hobbs. "It's a valuable race so we thought we'd give it a go."

Including her 4lb penalty the admirable Celtic Native still races off the minimum 10st with Lady Rebecca heading the weights on 12st.

Andrew Thornton rode the mare on Wednesday but amateur David O'Meara, who claims 5lb, will be on board today.

Connections had been considering sending Celtic Native to next month's Punchestown Festival but Hobbs added: "It's unlikely she'll go to Punchestown. She wants soft ground and it's good over there at the moment."
