TOP RIDERS TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Kieren Fallon and Frankie Dettori will be among eight of the world's best riders who will take part in the third British Airways International Jockey Challenge at Santa Anita tomorrow.

The European team was selected by Steve Cauthen and Fallon and Dettori will be joined in battle by Irish ace Mick Kinane and French star Gerald Mosse.

Bill Shoemaker has picked the United States quartet and has opted for Hall of Fame riders, Pat Day, Chris McCarron and Laffit Pincay along with Florida's top jockey Mike Smith.

There are four races in the challenge, a sprint and distance race on the turf course and similar events on the main dirt track.

Lonny T Powell, executive officer of Los Angeles Turf Club which operates Santa Anita, said: 'The event has received a tremendous response in its first two years. It has proven to be popular with both the jockeys and our fans and has been watched by thoroughbred racing fans around the world.'
