TON-UP JOHNSON LANDS BRILLIANT FOUR-TIMER

Jockey Richard Johnson joined the ton-up club for the fourth consecutive season when landing a 370-1 four-timer at Hereford this afternoon.

His of wins came on Ashman, Oulton Broad, Play Games and Nova Rose to move him on to 103 for the season.

Johnson is currently second in the jockeys' table behind reigning champion Tony McCoy but conceded: "Tony's out on his own as he's nearly another 100 ahead of me but I'm happy with the runner-up spot for this season at least."

On getting another century of winners on the score sheet after Ashman made every yard of the running to collect the Wedding Day At Hereford Novices' Handicap Hurdle, Johnson said: "I'm obviously over the moon to get another 100 on the board and having days like this are what it's all about.

"It's great that I've had a four-timer which included winning on two horses for Henry Daly as he's one of my two main stables and all I can say is I hope the winners keep on coming like they have this afternoon.

"I've not set any obvious targets but my best score is 133 which I notched last term and I hope I can better that this time and I'm obviously looking forward to some big-race rides at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals coming up."

Daly responsible for Ashman, followed up when Nova Rose took the EBF Panacur Guard Mares' Only Novices' Hurdle (Qualifier).

The daughter of Ra Nova hit the front four out before coming clear to record a 10-length verdict over Long Room Lady.

The trainers wife Clarissa, who owns the winner in partnership with Juliet Minton, said: "In true Daly fashion Henry told me this morning that he thought she was next to useless as her Southwell win last time had not really worked out. But she's won well there and is for sale if anybody's interested."

Johnson can have partnered few easier winners than Oulton Broad, who turned the Cupid's Arrow Maiden Claiming Hurdle into a one-horse race eventually passing the post with 18 lengths to spare over Tikotino.

Play Games has proved a model of consistency this term with some fair placed efforts but he came good for Johnson when getting the better of Hawaiian Youth in the Valentines Day Handicap Chase.

Winning trainer Richard Lee breathed a huge sigh of relief and said: "He deserved to win a race like that and we certainly needed it as five out of our last six runners had finished second."

Camden Road followed up his Folkestone win last month when staying on strongly under Leighton Aspell to beat Peewit Bridge by five lengths for the Reception Novices' Handicap Chase.

Now We Know, partnered by top point-to-point rider Julian Pritchard, finished too strongly for Look In The Mirror to take the honours in the Gold Ring Hunters' Chase.
