TIGER TO POUNCE AT CARLISLE

Sign Of The Tiger can carry on Patrick Haslam's excellent recent run in the Crowther Homes Carlisle Bell at the Cumbrian track tomorrow.

The Middleham trainer is churning out a high success ratio from a relatively small number of runners at the moment and can saddle the winner of the Showcase handicap.

Sign Of The Tiger last appeared four weeks ago when he came from way off the pace to collar Nowt Flash close home to take a 20-runner mile handicap at Newcastle and win by a head.

That narrow victory made up for an unlucky run just five days earlier at Thirsk where he went down in a blanket finish, beaten a head and a neck by Sovereign State and Nowt Flash.

The three-year-old gelding is sure to relish the stiff mile at Carlisle and can keep Haslam's supporters happy.

Unfortunate is another that likes to come fast and late and Julie Craze's filly should also find the course to her liking in the Thwaites Smooth Beer Handicap.

She made up a tremendous amount of ground following a slow start to spring a 40-1 surprise in a Leicester seller and has since finished a close fourth in ladies' handicap at Thirsk.

Unfortunate is still at the right end of the handicap and looks to be on the upgrade.

Mana-Mou Bay, a disappointing 18th to King's Best in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas, can at bounce back to form in the Southampton Conditions Stakes at Salisbury.

The son of Ela-Mana-Mou is very well thought of at Richard Hannon's yard and although the stable has not been firing on all cylinders of late, the three-year-old colt looks to have an ideal opportunity of opening his account for the season.

He only ran twice as a juvenile, winning a Listed race at Newbury by a length and a quarter from Tioga after finishing runner-up on his debut.

John Dunlop's progressive filly Firecrest can extend her winning run to four in the Bibury Cup Handicap.

The daughter of Darshaan has come on leaps and bounds in the last three weeks with two victories at Leicester and one at Newbury.

She easily defeated Palua by one and a half lengths for her latest success at the Berkshire track and must be backed until beaten.

Tammamm can make a successful return to handicap company in the Noel Cannon Memorial Trophy.

Linda Stubbs's charge was outclassed when fourth to Sacred Song at Nottingham, beaten a total of five and a half lengths by the Henry Cecil-trained winner.

The four-year-old gelding had earlier finished third to Ice in a tight finish at Lingfield, form that gives him strong claims in this mile handicap.

Praslin Island, disqualified after finishing first past the post at Nottingham two weeks ago, can gain compensation in thehorsesmouth.co.uk Handicap at Warwick.

Michael Roberts gave Island House a great ride when making all the running to hold Right Wing by a neck over 10 furlongs at Goodwood last month.

On that performance it is hard to get away from the Geoff Wragg-trained four-year-old back at the Sussex track in the Listed Mowlem Gala Stakes tomorrow evening.

At Chester, Thirsk trainer David Nicholls can take the Halliwell Jones BMW Handicap with Double Oscar.

The seven-year-old sprinter deserves to take this prize after running Henry Hall to a neck in a 19-runner handicap at York earlier this month.
