Andrew Thornton has been booked to ride Stormy Passage in Saturday's Martell Grand National.
And the jockey, who will be having his fifth ride in the race, is hoping for a big run from his mount, on whom he finished second in the Murphy's Gold Cup last November.
'He's got class and he goes best when fresh,' Thornton said.
'It's been idea to go for the National for a while and I hope he'll be a good ride. Touch wood, he's a good jumper.
'The trip is a slight worry for him but I would have thought it would be a worry for most of the field.'
Thornton will be able to get a feel for the fences 24 hours before the big race in the John Hughes Memorial Chase, in which he is set to ride Lance Armstrong for Robert Alner.
Jim Culloty was today handed the ride on Philip Hobbs's other runner, Village King.
His mount is quoted at 40-1 for the race by Ladbrokes having won at Cheltenham in December but finished only sixth in the William Hill National Hunt Chase there last month.
"Jim is very much looking forward to it," said Culloty's agent Chris Broad.
The jockey will be hoping for better luck than on his only previous National ride, when falling at the first on Hobbs's Full Of Oats in 1997.
Glenn Tormey has been booked to Royal Predica (33-1) for Martin Pipe at Aintree.
