THORNTON GETS HAYDOCK CALL

Andrew Thornton has picked up the spare ride on Fiddling The Facts in Saturday's De Vere Gold Cup at Haydock Park.

The jockey comes in for the mount on Nicky Henderson's mare as regular partner Mick Fitzgerald is required at Kempton Park.

Thornton said today: "I'm delighted. She's tough, very genuine, consistent and is unlucky not to have picked up a nice prize along the way.

"Hopefully the race will suit her and there won't be too many runners."

Fiddling The Facts finished 13 lengths second to Young Kenny in this race last season and is 22lb better off with Peter Beaumont's charge this time.

However, the nine-year-old put in a rare poor effort when pulled up in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow in December.

"I think you can forgive her last run, it was terrible ground that day," Thornton said. "And she's better in with the principals than she has been in previous runs.

"So if you forget her last run she's got to have a big chance.

"I'll be speaking to Mr Henderson and Mick Fitzgerald and hopefully looking forward to a good ride."
