Tayseer has been introduced as favourite for the Worthington Lincoln at Doncaster in March following the publication of the weights for the race today.
David Nicholls' charge, an 8-1 shot with Ladbrokes and William Hill and 10-1 joint-favourite with the Tote, is only 36th in the handicap for the first big race of the Flat season, which has a safety limit of 24.
If the gelding - set to carry 8st - fails to make the cut, he will be forced to run instead in the consolation Worthington Spring Mile.
However, Nicholls is hopeful that the six-year-old, who landed a big gamble in the Ladbroke Autumn Handicap at Newmarket last October, will make the line-up.
"I thought that's what we'd get," he said. "He's got a good chance of getting in.
"We can't make any difference to the rules, we've just got to get him into shape.
"We've also got Rock Falcon, Referendum, Peartree House and Wuxi Venture and they'll all tap away together."
Weights are headed by the Dermot Weld-trained Tarry Flynn on 9-10, 1lb clear of Toby Balding's Bomb Alaska who won the Worthington Spring Mile last season.
Bomb Alaska is set to return to Doncaster in March, according to Balding.
However the five-year-old is far from certain to line up in the £50,000 handicap.
The trainer said: "All things being equal he certainly will go to Doncaster but whether he'll go in the Lincoln or for the Doncaster Mile we will decide closer to the time.
"He's not a definite runner in the Lincoln. I'm for it but the owner isn't, she isn't keen on him giving away lumps of weight.
"Saying that it isn't always a low-weight race, the weights will probably only go down to about 8-4, and 9-9 is no worry to him at all.
"It's a lot of weight but he's a decent horse - I'm very lucky to have him."
Last season Bomb Alaska won the Spring Mile from a mark of 73 but improved so much that he was rated 101 when winning the Listed Ben Marshall Stakes at Newmarket in October.
"I have no reason to suppose he won't improve again - he certainly has physically," Balding added.
"We'll certainly aim him at a Group Three somewhere."
John Dunlop's 1999 Lincoln winner Right Wing, who was also third in the one-mile race two years ago, has been given 9-4 while Cambridgeshire scorer She's Our Mare is on 8-1.
