On career start number sixty, and after five wins over six and seven furlongs, Sunset Nova (10/1) triumphed on his first attempt at a mile in the first division of the 45-65 handicap.
The Zebedee gelding was given a chance in rear of mid-division by Andrew Slattery who pulled him out to challenge widest of all from two furlongs out. The chestnut found plenty and hit the front inside the final 150 yards before seeing out the trip well to account for 5/2 favourite Reverberation and Crystal Pool by three quarters of a length and the same.
Brian Slattery, assistant to his brother Andy Slattery, said: “That’s his first time over a mile and the step up in trip seems to have suited him. He’s in again on Friday night (over 7f) and will probably turn up again.
“He’s a grand servant and wins a few races every year. He was a bit out of sorts around Christmas time but is back to himself now.”
