Streets Of Doyen (5/2f) is showing a real aptitude for three mile tests as evidenced by his latest victory in Gowran Park.
The six-year-old gelding loomed large at the second last and was ridden to go after Flooring Porter before the final flight.
Flooring Porter held a narrow lead jumping it as Streets Of Doyen switched to the inside.
The leader veered markedly to his left along the stands’ side rail and lost momentum as Streets Of Doyen powered home on the far side to deliver by five lengths for trainer John McConnell.
Flooring Porter had to settle for second at 3/1. He was seven and a half lengths clear of Rightplacerightime at 16/1.
“He's improving away and learning his job. It was the same trip and ground as the last day (in Roscommon) and it suits him well,” said jockey Sean O'Keeffe.
“Three miles gives him plenty of time to get into the race. Hopefully he'll keep progressing.
“He should jump a fence as well in time, he's a fine big horse.”
The Stewards interviewed Mr J.B. Foley, rider of Due Reward concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr J.B. Foley was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his clean record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr J.B. Foley for two race days.
