Gavin Cromwell's first visit to Bahrain proved fruitful last night as Snellen weaved her way through the field to win a valuable handicap prize.

Gary Carroll was towards the rear early on in the ten furlong Al Muharraq Cup but his mount cut through the field in the straight.

The Expert Eye filly burst into the lead inside the final furlong to record a convincing length-and-three-quarter success in the US$80,000 contest.

In an interview for the Bahrain Turf Club afterwards Cromwell said:- “She didn't break very well, Gary took her back and rode her for luck.

“He got all the splits down the rail, it worked, and she was really good. She certainly showed a turn of foot.

“She did a lovely piece of work last Friday at home and Gary said 'I'm going to Bahrain'. He was adamant he was coming to ride her so that was a good sign.”
