Champion Trainer Willie Mullins registered his second winner of the Festive period when his Smashing recorded a noteworthy win in the O'Kelly Bros. Demolition & Environmental Contracts Hurdle at Limerick today, under Paul Townend.
The winner readily stretched clear of nearest pursuer, the Aidan O'Brien trained Carriganog from the second last and comfortably held that rival, winning eased down by seven lengths.
Mullins was at Leopardstown where his Clondaw Court won the opener there, but Townend subsequently stated “he's a grand bonny horse and we knew he'd go on the ground as he won at Autueil on heavy ground in the past.”
“I knew I had everything else covered coming into the straight and he did everything right and jumped well.”
